MC (Multi Combination) Truck Licence

A MC (Multi Combination) Licence is the highest class of heavy vehicle licence in Australia. It allows you to drive prime movers with more than one trailer – including B-doubles and road trains. To be eligible, you must have held a HR or HC licence for at least 12 months.

Vehicle Entitlements

• Any prime mover attached to a semi-trailer

• A rigid vehicle towing a trailer with a GVM of more than 9 tonnes

• Any unladen converter dolly

• Includes vehicles covered under the HR licence class

Pre-Requisites

Applicants must:

• Have held a HR or HC licence for at least 12 months

• P2 licence holders are not eligible to upgrade to MC

• Complete the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Rigid Knowledge Test

• Obtain a Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) logbook and guidebook

Course Duration

• Up to 8 hours of training & assessment provided

• RMS requires 48 hours’ notice for the final competency test

During your MC training, you will learn and demonstrate the following:

• Pre-Operational Checks

• Cabin Drill

• Start, Move Off, Shut Down & Secure

• Steering, Gears, Brakes & Accelerator Management

• Crash Avoidance Space (CAS) – creation & protection

• Road Rules & Directions

• Reversing Manoeuvres (with trailers)

• Hill Start & Stop

• Load Securing (truck & trailers)

• Bus-Specific Stop Procedure (if applicable)

• Final Competency Test

• Summative Assessment
